source for consumer spending data?

source for consumer spending data?

Postby calypso3 on Sat Jun 27, 2009 10:46 pm

I am looking to either buy or start a business and need to better understand what specifically aging boomers spend money on. Is there a data service that provides spending by category/age/economic status?

One example often stated is chips are purchased by 42 yr old with children. Where do i find which categories people buy by age? Is ice cream a growing or declining category for seniors? what about nuts? what about frozen yogurt, which is healthier? what about meats, coffee or tea? Camping gear? clothing?

Would like to see how households budget by age.

Does anyone have a good source?

Regards,

Steven

It's a great time to start a business. History shows us that the seeds of much of the wealth created were planted during an economic downturn. Baby boomers are getting older, but not without a fight. You should look into a business which deals in health and beauty. Both are multi-billion dollar industries and growing. Don't forget about consumer staples, which always do well no matter what the economy is doing. I would suggest a business that is turn-key and metaphysical...yes that means on the Internet where you can service thousands of customers simultaneously.
